Meet, Paul Twynholm
Game Director
Whats your favourite thing about working at HARDlight?
I've been at HARDlight for a long time, and one thing that I've always enjoyed is the variety in the work. There are always new and exciting projects to get involved in and, with fairly small teams, there is more opportunity than in most companies I've worked for to step outside your comfort zone and try something new.
What makes working at HARDlight different?
Being part of SEGA and getting to work with treasured titles from the past makes the work unique – I suppose you don't get to do that everywhere! I think the variety of different types of projects we work on also makes us different: we have live games constantly being updated with new features; work on our own new projects; as well as supporting other SEGA companies on their titles - there is always a buzz around the studio.
Favourite Game?
Oh my, that's such a tough question! My relationship with games has evolved over the years so it is hard to pick just one. What I'm always looking for is new experiences, I love it when a game does something unique or twists something in an original way. If you still want a single game, Hades by Supergiant Games is the one in recent years that destroyed way too much of my time.
Favourite moment at HARDlight?
I'm not going to pick one but rather gather all my outings together! Whether that be blasting around Malvern in minis during one of our summer team building days or visiting Apple HQ in Cupertino there is always fun to be had. On one trip to San Francisco, I even managed to squeeze in some snowboarding around Lake Tahoe and had my first ski-through Starbucks.
What are you most proud of?
Our teams! We have a great bunch of really talented individuals that care about what they do and work together to deliver some amazing experiences. In the current project, we have a regular show and tell where individuals and teams demo their work to the rest of the team – I leave that meeting every week motivated and energised.
